Life is beautiful

In this practice, we celebrate life—with all its ups and downs. We reflect on the unique journey we’ve had so far and look ahead to a goal that feels true to us and brings us joy.

Why should we practice it?

  • Sharing turning points from our life story can help us see how our actions and relationships have made us who we are.  It helps us understand ourselves better.
  • Looking back at life, we may realise that some things were beyond our control. This awareness can help us be kinder to ourselves and others.
  • Reflecting on our life’s story can give us a sense of gratitude for everything, the good and the not-so-good.
  • Setting a meaningful goal for the future can inspire us to work towards it and increase our sense of well-being by giving us meaning and purpose.

How can we practice it?

Please set aside 45-60 mins of quiet time to do this practice. Keep a pen and paper handy.

  1. Journey so far
  • Take a few deep breaths to relax.
  • Now that you are feeling centred, think of two or three major turning points in your life and how they have made you who you are. These could be related to your childhood, education, career, family life or anything else.
  • Now, create a simple timeline on paper, placing these three events in the order they happened.
  • Then, take the next 15 minutes to reflect on these turning points using the questions below:
Turning point 1Turning point 2Turning point 3
1. What are the feelings associated with this incident?
2. How has it shaped who you are today?
3. What obstacles
or support did you face at this stage?
4. What strengths or values did this event reveal in you?
  1. Your priorities today
  • Now, let’s look ahead. Take a few minutes to think about a goal that feels personally meaningful to you. It can be big or small—something as simple as “I will learn to sing,” or “I will start a small kitchen business,” or “I will learn to ride a scooter.”
  • Every goal is beautiful. Write yours down now (take 10 minutes).
  • Next, write three steps you can take in the coming month or year to move toward this goal.

Appreciate your journey so far

Pause for a moment and look at the timeline you created. Think about your journey—how far you’ve come, and all that you’ve lived through.

It’s true that life has its challenges and surprises. But even with everything, life is indeed very beautiful.
